Online Predators $18.99 "Online Predators is a guide for parents who want to know if their child is at risk due to information they share online. Parents will gain insight on how to assist their child in creating a safer profile and displaying appropriate images. This book will help the reader choose software that can act as a 'virtual' parent to supervise their child's online activities. Several techniques used by online predators to groom children for sexual exploitation are discussed in detail. Secrecy is the predator's strongest weapon communication is the parent's strongest defense. The resource section supplies a list of websites and phone numbers of agencies working to protect children. This information will aid parents in reporting online predators to the proper authorities. Deputy Chief Michael Sullivan is one of the true pioneers in the battle to keep kids safe online. At the Naperville Police Department and now for the Illinois Attorney General, he has been an innovator and leader in this challenging field. His latest book offers powerful, timely messages for kids and adults. I am particularly enthusiastic about his content for junior and senior high school students, including vital information on social networking, digital cameras, and much more. His content for adults is equally important, reaching into areas in which many are woefully uninformed, including identity theft and peer-to-peer networks. It is an important resource for everyone. Ernie Allen: CEO of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children Online safety is now an essential part of a child's education. Deputy Chief Michael Sullivan has played a critical role in investigating Internet crimes and creating Internet safetyeducation programs for the Illinois Attorney General's office. This book incorporates the same excellent methods that we use for delivering clear messages to children, teachers, and parents. Lisa Madigan: Illinois Attorney General" |

Chapters: 1726 Novels, Gulliver's Travels, 1726 in Literature, the Political History of the Devil. Source: Wikipedia. Free updates online. Not illustrated. Excerpt: Gulliver's Travels (1726, amended 1735), officially Travels into Several Remote Nations of the World, in Four Parts. By Lemuel Gulliver, First a Surgeon, and then a Captain of several Ships, is a novel by Irish writer and clergyman Jonathan Swift that is both a satire on human nature and a parody of the "travellers' tales" literary sub-genre. It is Swift's best known full-length work, and a classic of English literature. The book became tremendously popular as soon as it was published (John Gay said in a 1726 letter to Swift that "it is universally read, from the cabinet council to the nursery"); since then, it has never been out of print. The book presents itself as a simple traveller's narrative with the disingenuous title Travels into Several Remote Nations of the World, its authorship assigned only to "Lemuel Gulliver, first a surgeon, then a captain of several ships". Different editions contain different versions of the prefatory material which are basically the same as forewords in modern books. The book proper then is divided into four parts, which are as follows. Mural depicting Gulliver surrounded by citizens of Lilliput.May 4, 1699 April 13, 1702 The book begins with a short preamble in which Gulliver, in the style of books of the time, gives a brief outline of his life and history prior to his voyages. He enjoys traveling, although it is that love of travel that is his downfall. On his first voyage, Gulliver is washed ashore after a shipwreck and awakes to find himself a prisoner of a race of people one-twelfth the size of normal human beings (6 inches/15 cm tall), who are inhabitants of the neighbouring and rival |

Houghton, an author they idolized from childhood, whose one and only work was a landmark novel called Time Flies Tomorrow . They try to seize the opportunity to speak to him, depositing their father at a nearby sports bar, where he begins to watch the Mariners game. They return later to find him conversing with T. H. Houghton himself. It transpires that he is visiting Seattle and knows few people, but has much in common with Martin. He also hates talking about his work. These two truths prove a source of great frustration for Frasier and Niles, with increasing frequency as Martin and Houghton spend more time together. Then |

Novels by Laurence Yep (Study Guide): Dragon, Dragon War, Dragon Cauldron, Dragon of the Lost Sea, Dragon Steel $9.71 Purchase includes a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Chapters: Dragon, Dragon War, Dragon Cauldron, Dragon of the Lost Sea, Dragon Steel. Source: Wikipedia. Free updates online. Not illustrated. Excerpt: The Dragon series is a tetralogy of fantasy novels by Chinese-American author Laurence Yep. Yep had already written several books including the Newbery Honor novel Dragonwings by 1980, when, after undertaking careful research, he decided to adapt Chinese mythology into a fantasy form, something he had always wanted to do since he had sold his first science fiction story at 18. He "tried to stay true to the spirit" of these myths, but did not try "to keep their exact details". The "perfect vehicle" he chose was a folktale in which the Monkey King captured a river spirit who had flooded an entire city, which he at first tried to conceive in picture book form.. However, he kept questioning the motivations of the river spirit, who he had renamed Civet. This resulted in the realization as his outline ballooned exponentially from eight to 800 pages that he would need a series as opposed to just one book to tell her story. The story then evolved into one in which the Monkey King pursued Civet into "our reality", resulting in "several normal children from our universe" being taken back into theirs. Yep had completed several drafts of this version when "toward the end of that version there was a special pair - a dragon and her boy - who stole the scene whenever they were on stage". He realized that he had to nearly start over, this time structuring the story around these two, who became Shimmer and Thorn. This proved to be just the start, as Yep continued to incorporate more material and mythology into the later books based on further research and inspiration. Part of the process involved changing the narration from Shimmer to the Monkey King with |
